We're delighted to announce our August/September 2026 MVP Award winner: Pillay, our hospital chef!

Samira grew up in Kampala, left school to support her family, and faced an unplanned pregnancy during Uganda’s COVID-19 lockdown. Thanks to Mildmay’s Universal Fund, she is back in education and preparing for her exams. Our summer appeal will keep this lifeline open for many more young people. Adelaide trained as a nurse and midwife at Mildmay in the 1920s, then spent twenty years as a medical missionary in the Belgian Congo, building hospitals from scratch and once saving a man gored by an elephant with fifty sutures and no anaesthetic. She returned to England in 1944, fostered seven children of fellow missionaries, and lived to 86. Her son, a retired consultant surgeon, has written a book about her life. Mildmay Hospital has published its 2025/26 Quality Account, outlining how we monitor, maintain and continually improve the quality of the specialist care we provide. The report reviews progress over the past year, sets priorities for further improvement and demonstrates our commitment to safe, effective and compassionate care.

In 1955, Pam arrived at Mildmay as a student nurse. She trained across three sites, Mildmay, the London Hospital, and Kingston, living in cold rooms near Shoreditch Church and a concrete hostel in Hoxton. She remembers ward walls lined with Bible texts, daily Quiet Time, and the grey cape with its purple lining that was recognised across east London. Seventy years on, her memories are sharp, warm, and anchored in a hospital that was already something singular.

The World AIDS Day RED RUN 2026 is back - and we want Mildmay supporters in the starting line-up. Join us on 21 November at Victoria Park, East London, for 5K or 10K of running, walking, community and celebration. Every pound raised goes directly to our HIV care services in the UK and our life-changing work in Uganda.

During Pride Month, we share a powerful personal reflection from Patrick, a former Mildmay chaplain whose life and ministry were shaped by the AIDS crisis. His story recalls a time of stigma, loss and courage, and offers a moving reminder of the compassion, dignity and sense of belonging that defined Mildmay's response to HIV. Today is International Nurses Day, 12 May - Florence Nightingale's birthday. At Mildmay, our nurses are at the heart of everything we do. They work with patients living with complex health and social needs, meeting them with skill, patience, and a steady belief that everyone deserves dignity and a chance to recover. Mildmay's nursing legacy stretches back 160 years, and today we celebrate the nurses who continue that work every day. Happy International Nurses Day 2026.
