Thank you: the Universal Fund is back on its feet

This summer, over 600 supporters gave to our appeal for the Universal Fund, raising more than £35,000 (including Gift Aid). Thank you.
Together with the £10,000 that restarted the Fund in the spring, UK supporters have given more than £45,000 to the Universal Fund this year.
When the Fund restarted in April, no child had been supported into formal education for two years. Since then, around 40 households have come back into the programme, and at least 72 children and young people have been identified for support. Of these, 39 are already in school, vocational training or an apprenticeship.
Your gifts mean Mildmay Uganda can now support more young people through school and training in 2027 and beyond. That means school fees and materials, apprenticeships in trades from tailoring and hairdressing to motor vehicle and motorcycle mechanics, and the social work, health and family support around each young person.
The Fund has restarted on a smaller scale, so it can grow steadily instead of spreading itself too thin. Your support has given it a stable footing for the years ahead. Every further gift helps it build back towards the reach it once had: more than 2,000 children and young people, and their families, supported since 2002.
Mildmay Uganda’s next quarterly report is due within the month, and we expect to see more young people joining as the programme builds. We’ll share the update here. Samira, whose story launched the appeal, sits her Uganda Certificate of Education exams in November, and we’ll let you know how she gets on.
Our summer appeal has ended, but the Universal Fund continues, and gifts are always welcome. A regular gift, however small, does most to help Mildmay Uganda plan ahead.
