Mildmay Hospital at Healthcare Catering Live and Healthcare Facilities Management 2025
This week, Mildmay Hospital was represented in two leading national events at the NEC in Birmingham: Healthcare Catering Live 2025 and the Healthcare Facilities Management Conference. Kattya, our Specialist Dietitian joined Healthcare Catering Live, while George, our Facilities Supervisor, represented Mildmay at the Facilities Management Conference - ensuring our expertise and experiences contributed across both fields.
Healthcare Catering Live 2025: Innovation on the Plate

More than just a conference, Healthcare Catering Live is a showcase of innovation in hospital food and nutrition. Bringing together caterers, dietitians, chefs, and sustainability leaders, the event featured everything from live cooking demonstrations to thought-provoking panel discussions.
We were delighted to share our own insights, connect with peers, and learn from the very best in hospital catering. A huge thank you to the organisers, sponsors, speakers, partners, and delegates who made #HCL25 such a valuable platform for collaboration. It was clear that when catering, nursing, dietetics, and sustainability professionals come together, real change for patient care can follow.
Mildmay Featured in Net Zero Food Programme Report

At the Facilities Management Conference, Mildmay’s patient menus were showcased as part of the Net Zero Food Programme Report: What Does Good Look Like?, presented by Max Kindred, Estates Net Zero Senior Insight Manager at NHS England. This session highlighted the NHS’s ambitious net zero targets, with Mildmay recognised as an example of best practice.
This work, led by Kattya, has already delivered:
18% reduction in carbon emissions
30% reduction in food waste
These achievements show how thoughtful menu planning and sustainable food management can make a tangible difference—both for the environment and for patient care.
Facilities Management: Rising to New Challenges
The conference also explored the evolving landscape of healthcare facilities management, from tackling workforce challenges to implementing the National Standards for Healthcare Cleanliness and the NHS Clinical Waste Strategy. Delegates shared good practice and discussed innovations in automation, robotics, and digital task management, all vital for delivering safe, sustainable, and efficient healthcare environments.
For Mildmay, maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and infection control remains a cornerstone of our facilities work, especially important in times of recruitment pressures and resource constraints.
Our Commitment
At Mildmay, we believe hospital food and facilities management are integral to care, not simply about sustenance or logistics, but about comfort, recovery, dignity, and wellbeing. We are committed to excellence, and we are proud to play our part in shaping a future where nutritious meals and sustainable practices are central to every patient’s journey.
Together with colleagues across the NHS and beyond, we will continue to share learning, drive innovation, and champion positive change - for a healthier, more sustainable future for all.
