OUTstanding Support: TfL's OUTbound Network Raises Thousands!

Mildmay/Pride 2024 pin badge

We are absolutely thrilled and very grateful to announce that we recently received a generous donation of over £3,100 from the OUTbound Colleague Network, Transport for London's (TfL) dedicated LGBTQIA+ employee network.

This incredible contribution was raised through the creation and sale of a special edition Pride Roundel Pin Badge! This lovely badge celebrates Mildmay’s long and proud association with LGBTQIA+ communities, a connection that was powerfully highlighted last year, with Transport for London naming the six lines of the London Overground railway network. We were incredibly honoured and thrilled that the line running from Stratford to Clapham Junction/Richmond is now officially the Mildmay line. This recognition celebrates Mildmay’s pioneering care for people living with HIV/AIDS during the challenging years of the 1980s and 90s, our ongoing support for the LGBTQ+ community to this day, and our 160 years of service to the people of East London.

A special shout-out to Alex Garnett-Scherer, Vice Chair of OUTbound, whose instrumental role in designing and distributing the badge significantly raised awareness of Mildmay's work and legacy. We are so grateful to Alex and the OUTbound Colleague Network and everyone who purchased a pin badge for their solidarity and support. This donation is a powerful affirmation of the bond between Mildmay, the LGBTQIA+ community, and our shared history reflected in the naming of the Mildmay line.

This donation was put towards our recent fundraising appeal which raised over £63,000 to support our hospital (see here for how this will help) and will help us further our mission to provide exceptional care, expand our services for those affected by HIV and complex health needs, and improve the lives of those who need it most in our community and internationally.

OUTbound, established in 2005, serves as a supportive community for LGBTQIA+ colleagues and their allies within TfL, promoting diversity and inclusion across the organisation. Their commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace aligns seamlessly with Mildmay's values and history of serving marginalised communities.

Thank you, OUTbound, for your incredible OUTstanding support!
