Update banner: Over £22,000 raised so far!

Help UK clinicians save lives abroad - and bring those lessons home. Your donation funds vital placements in Uganda, strengthening healthcare locally, and transforms patient care in the NHS.

A New Chapter for Mildmay – and a Stronger NHS

This year, Mildmay marks 40 years as a charitable hospital in East London.

We have always stepped forward where others could not; from our origins in the 1860s cholera epidemic, through the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis in the 1980s and 90s, to today’s specialist services for complex HIV-related conditions and innovative pathways for people experiencing homelessness and those recovering from addiction,

Now, through our Education Exchange Programme, we are going further - strengthening healthcare both in Uganda and here at home in the UK.

Why This Matters

The idea is simple but powerful:

  • UK clinicians, doctors, nurses and therapists, spend time at Mildmay Hospital Uganda, working alongside local teams to treat advanced HIV, TB, malaria, and increasingly, chronic conditions such as cancer, diabetes, and hypertension.

  • In Uganda, their expertise helps fill urgent gaps in resources and staffing.

  • When they return home, they bring back life-changing experience, resilience, adaptability and leadership - skills that directly benefit the NHS and patients here in the UK.

It is a true exchange: by serving in resource-limited settings abroad, UK clinicians return more skilled, more confident, and better prepared to meet the challenges of modern healthcare. here at home.

Highlights Include:

  • Hands-On Learning: UK clinicians are exposed to conditions such as malaria and tuberculosis in resource-limited settings in the Global South, expanding their clinical repertoire.

  • Cultural Exchange: Participants gain a deeper appreciation of different healthcare systems, practices, and community contexts, strengthening collaboration and mutual understanding.

  • Capacity Building: Through knowledge exchange, Ugandan healthcare professionals benefit from the introduction of new skills and practices that improve patient care.

Your donation makes this possible. Every contribution equips clinicians to make a lasting impact - both overseas and here at home.

Our Goal

This year, we are aiming to raise £60,000 - enough to fund 40 clinician placements.

Here’s What Your Support Can Achieve:

  • £50 covers in-country transport so UK clinicians can reach remote clinics.

  • £500 provides vital medical supplies and supports community outreach.

  • £3,000 funds two placements in full, covering travel, accommodation, and supervision.

Together, we aim to raise £60,000 - enough to support around 40 clinician placements.

Every pound you give helps UK clinicians return better equipped to care for patients, while leaving behind lasting benefits in Uganda.
