On December 10th, the world commemorates Human Rights Day, an annual observance that marks the momentous adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948.

The theme for this year's Human Rights Day is "Freedom, Equality, and Justice for All." It serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing pursuit to ensure that every person, irrespective of gender, race, religion, or nationality, is entitled to basic human rights and freedoms.

Mildmay cares for some of the most vulnerable members of our society. Individuals living with HIV often face the harsh sting of societal stigma, while those experiencing homelessness brave the unforgiving streets of London. It is our mission to be a beacon of hope for these individuals, advocating tirelessly for their right to access high-quality healthcare and the dignity they deserve.

We staunchly believe in a world where every person's human rights are not just acknowledged but honoured and protected. Our efforts are rooted in fostering a society that respects the intrinsic value of every individual, regardless of their circumstances or background.

It is incumbent upon us, as a global community, to continue advocating, educating, and striving for a world where human rights are not just a concept but a lived experience for every individual. Together, let us reaffirm our commitment to upholding the principles of freedom, equality, and justice for all.

Let us carry forward the spirit of Human Rights Day throughout the year. Let us be catalysts for change, champions for justice, and advocates for the rights of all individuals. Together, we can create a world where human rights are not just celebrated on a single day but embedded in the fabric of our societies, shaping a brighter, fairer, and more equitable future for generations to come.

In 2023, we commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

For 75 years, the core ambition of the Declaration has been to infuse societies with equality, fundamental freedoms and justice. It enshrines the rights of all human beings and is a global blueprint for international, national, and local laws and policies and a bedrock of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
