The results are in…for the first-ever Mildmay MVP Award* the votes were tied so we don’t just have one winner, but two!
Our October 2022 MVP Award winners - the first-ever - are Sister Bernie, Mildmay Chaplain, and George Yearwood, Estates & Facilities Supervisor & Reception Manager. Congratulations to Bernie and George, and here are some reasons why they were nominated and voted for by their colleagues:
Bernie
"For making sure all the patients got to see the Queen's funeral and also for holding the memorial service."
"Bernie never receives recognition for all the extra unpaid hours she gives to Mildmay"
"Bernie is always kind and friendly"
George
"It's really difficult to imagine working with someone who is more efficient, helpful, professional and organised than George - I think he is exceptional in his skills and his excellent work ethic. He always goes the extra mile to assist all the patients, visitors, students, volunteers and staff. For many months he has been juggling many new Estates and Facilities responsibilities with his Receptionist role. He has done this efficiently, never complains and is always polite, smiley and friendly. He is always willing to learn new things, has so much initiative and is always so keen to help. I would love to see his hard work recognised and rewarded by the whole team"
"He has held the fort and dealt with numerous jobs thrown at him"
What's this all about then?
*First of all, MVP is an abbreviation for most valuable player: in American sports, an award given to a sports player who is judged most important to the sport, team, or game; the player who receives such an award. Having been used in music and social media, the term has become part of common parlance.
Mildmay's new monthly MVP Awards were devised by one of our physiotherapists, Josh Pedro, who recognised that, in addition to the annual staff awards by our Trustees, our resilient, dedicated and hard-working staff deserved a fun way to support each other and recognise excellence in their colleagues.
"Aim
This award aims to recognise the amazing things that Mildmay staff are doing on a day-to-day basis but that may otherwise fly under the radar. By bringing this to the forefront, we can impart some regular goodwill and warm, fuzzy feelings into the workplace, and give our staff the appreciation they deserve!
Description
The Mildmay MVP Award is a monthly, ‘people’s vote’ style staff awards system. Candidates are nominated by and voted for by staff. No hierarchy!
Each month, we ask for nominations for who our staff think has been the Mildmay MVP. You can nominate any member of staff (clinical, non-clinical, senior management, catering, finance, facilities etc.) & this can be for anything big (saving someone’s life) or small (being really smiley every day).
Once the nominations are in, we all have the chance to vote for the winner in an online poll. Everyone sees the nominations so even if they don’t ‘win’, hopefully, feels nice to be recognised publicly.
Prize
The ubiquitous Amazon vouchers"
Nominations are now open for November...
