A team from Mildmay UK, led by our CEO, Geoff Coleman, has flown out to visit Mildmay Kenya.
Once a year or so, we go out to work with the Mildmay Kenya (MMK) team and ensure they have what they need to do their work. This time, as well as our CEO, our finance Manager and two Trustees have gone out to meet with MMK’s Board and accountant with the aim of improving financial reporting and communications for the many projects MMK has on the go.
MMK opened an office in Homa Bay recently to provide healthcare training and education to the people in that region, in addition to the ongoing work in Siaya, Kisumu and Mageta Island. Today, our team visited the clinic of one of our partner organisations in Homa Bay, then drove for 4 hours (one way) to visit health workers and volunteers in Kise village.
The Mildmay Kenya truck is broken down and in the garage for repairs, so a vehicle had to be hired for the journey. Our aim for Mildmay’s summer fundraising campaign is to purchase a new truck for MMK.
As you can see, a rugged vehicle is needed to traverse large distances on basic muddy trackways. The 100,000 people we reach and help in Kenya mainly live in remote and difficult to access regions, so a reliable vehicle is essential.
If you would like to support Mildmay Kenya, find out more here and please consider a donation towards MMK’s work and their urgently needed new truck.
Geoff is writing a blog during his visit to Kenya. Read the first instalment here.
