Mildmay Hospital clinicians were proud to present innovative research and specialist rehabilitation work at the 2026 Joint Conference of the British HIV Association (BHIVA) and the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH).
The national conference brings together leading clinicians, researchers, and healthcare professionals working in HIV and sexual health from across the UK and beyond. This year, Mildmay’s specialist staff contributed to presentations highlighting both the future of HIV support technology and the life-changing impact of specialist rehabilitation.
Dr Divyan Moodley presented pioneering research exploring how artificial intelligence could help improve HIV education and support for the public and for people living with HIV.
The research, entitled “Evaluating commercial large language models in delivering HIV-related health education”, was originally undertaken as part of Dr Moodley’s MSc dissertation and explored the potential role of AI in improving access to reliable HIV information.
Building on this work, Dr Moodley is now developing MACH (Multilingual AI Chatbot delivering information on HIV), an AI-supported HIV education and signposting project designed to help people access trustworthy information and appropriate support more easily. Development of MACH is supported through funding from Gilead Sciences Ltd.
Alongside this, Mildmay specialist dietitian Kattya Mayre-Chilton and Lead Physiotherapist Asterios Lotsios co-presented a case study demonstrating the impact of specialist HIV rehabilitation.
The presentation followed the recovery journey of a patient with advanced HIV who, after severe illness and prolonged hospitalisation, regained independence through sustained multidisciplinary rehabilitation and specialist care.
The research highlighted the importance of not giving up on patients with complex needs and demonstrated the value of compassionate, coordinated specialist support in helping people rebuild their lives.

Mildmay has a long history of innovation in HIV care, and we are proud that our clinicians continue to contribute to national conversations around rehabilitation, dignity, recovery, and the future of patient support.
We warmly congratulate all staff involved in presenting at this year’s conference.
