Mildmay Hospital was proud to attend the 2025 BHIVA Spring Conference last week, held in the historic and beautiful Brighton Dome.
Sharing Research and Innovation in HIV Rehabilitation
As a leading provider of rehabilitation for people living with HIV (PLWH), Mildmay has long played an active role in this key event, which brings together healthcare professionals, researchers, and advocates from across the HIV sector.
This year, two of our clinical team presented two important research posters that reflect our commitment to evidence-based, person-centred care:
Dr Divyan Moodley presented a retrospective audit titled “Presenting Features of People Living with HIV Referred for In-Patient Rehabilitation at Mildmay Hospital.” Drawing from 62 patient cases, the study highlighted the high prevalence of complex comorbidities, particularly neurological conditions, among those referred to Mildmay, and emphasised the need for holistic, multidisciplinary care for PLWH.
Asterios Lotsios, our Lead Physiotherapist, shared “Enhancing Balance in People Living with HIV through Physiotherapy.” His study demonstrated tangible improvements in mobility and stability following a 12-week physiotherapy intervention, underlining the vital role of rehabilitation in restoring independence and quality of life.
We were also pleased to be joined by our steadfast Admissions Manager, Patricia, who helped host our conference stand. The stand attracted a steady stream of visitors from across the HIV sector - including clinicians, community workers, and support organisations - keen to learn more about Mildmay’s unique rehabilitation services for people with advanced HIV-related neurological conditions. Our Medical Director, Dr Simon Rackstraw, a leading consultant in HIV medicine, was also in attendance, reinforcing Mildmay’s clinical leadership within the sector.
A particular highlight was a visit from Angelina Namiba, a long-standing friend of Mildmay, a former patient, and now a dedicated volunteer. Angelina’s advocacy and leadership are well known across the HIV community. She is a mentor with 4M Net Mentor Mothers CIC, and holds a number of influential roles, which include Trustee at National AIDS Trust, SAFE Kenya, and Salamander Trust, Patron of NHIVNA and Co-Chair of the Share East London Community Advisory Board
We’re grateful to everyone who visited our stand and contributed to such a meaningful event. Participation in BHIVA is a reminder of how vital our work remains, and we look forward to continuing to lead in HIV rehabilitation.
