Did you know we’re already halfway through Payroll Giving Month?

Every February, charities, employers and Payroll Giving agencies come together to raise awareness of one of the simplest and most tax-efficient ways to support causes you care about.

Payroll Giving (also known as Give As You Earn) allows you to donate directly from your salary before tax is deducted. It’s quick to set up, secure, and incredibly powerful for charities like Mildmay.

Why Payroll Giving matters

For Mildmay, Payroll Giving provides something invaluable: reliability.

Regular monthly donations allow us to plan ahead, sustain specialist services, and respond to the complex needs of the people we care for, from HIV medicine and neurorehabilitation to mental health and homelessness support.

Because donations come from your gross pay, we receive the full value immediately, without needing to claim Gift Aid. That means your support goes further, faster.

What does “tax-efficient” mean?

Donating from your pre-tax salary means it costs you less than the amount we receive.

To donate £10 per month, it costs you:

  • £8 if you’re a basic rate taxpayer

  • £6 if you’re a higher rate taxpayer

  • £5.50 if you’re an additional rate taxpayer

(Scottish tax rates differ slightly.)

It’s one of the most efficient ways to give, particularly for higher-rate taxpayers.

It’s easier than you think

  1. Check if your employer offers Payroll Giving.

  2. Choose Mildmay as your charity.

  3. Select your monthly donation amount.

  4. Your gift is deducted automatically before tax.

That’s it!

If your employer doesn’t yet have a scheme, they can set one up quickly through an HMRC-approved Payroll Giving agency. Payroll Giving Month is the perfect time to start that conversation.

Why now?

Payroll Giving Month is all about momentum. Across the UK, employers and charities are encouraging people to take a small action that creates long-term impact.

A regular £10 per month donation might feel small but when combined with others, it helps fund meals for patients, rehabilitation programmes, specialist nursing care and vital clinical services.

If you’ve been thinking about supporting Mildmay, this is a simple and highly effective way to do it.
