In the UK, our mission at Mildmay Mission Hospital revolves around the restoration of independence for our patients. Our unique rehabilitation programs for HIV-related neurological conditions, and specialised clinical and social services for people who are homeless, and those recovering from drug and alcohol addiction, have been instrumental in empowering many individuals to reclaim their autonomy.
However, sustaining our operations comes with its challenges. The average annual cost to keep Mildmay operational hovers around £3.5 million, with NHS contracts covering only about 90% of these expenses. This is where charitable donations play a crucial role, making up the difference, allowing us not just to maintain but also enhance our services and facilities.
In Kenya and Uganda, Mildmay's commitment extends to collaborating with governments, hospitals, clinics, and community projects to improve healthcare services. Our efforts significantly affect the well-being of communities, particularly in remote and underserved areas. From antenatal care and cervical screening to vital HIV education and prevention, our initiatives provide essential support, especially to vulnerable groups and high-risk individuals.
