Mildmay Donates Vital Rehabilitation and Clinical Equipment to PhysioNet for Shipment to Ukraine

Medical room in Ukraine after reconstruction

Mildmay is proud to share that we have just completed a major donation of essential rehabilitation and clinical equipment to our long-trusted partners at PhysioNet.

These items, which include therapy tilt tables, therapy beds and plinths, hospital mattresses, continence pads, gowns, sliding sheets, bath boards, toilet chairs, kitchen trolleys and more, will soon be on their way to Ukraine, supporting a town close to the ongoing war-affected regions.

Even in the face of our own challenges, we continue to share, support, and stand with communities in need.

Supporting partners who transform lives worldwide

PhysioNet is a UK-based charity that collects surplus disability, mobility, and medical equipment, refurbishes it and ships it to countries where access to these vital resources is extremely limited.

Their impact is remarkable:

  • The following shipments were made from October 2024 to the end of March 2025. A total of 6,829 items (including 574 wheelchairs and 744 items of therapy equipment) were loaded into five HGVs, three 40 ft, and one 20 ft containers.

  • The following shipments were made from April to the end of September 2025. A total of 9,046 items (including 889 wheelchairs and 807 items of therapy equipment), were loaded into four HGVs and seven 40 ft containers.

  • Shipments to over 30 countries, including Ghana, India, Fiji, Romania, Sierra Leone, and Ukraine

  • Entirely volunteer-run, with all donations supporting shipping and logistics.

By donating equipment that would otherwise sit unused or go to waste, Mildmay is helping PhysioNet continue its mission of promoting dignity, mobility, and independence for people across the globe.

A partnership powered by compassion and practical action

This donation was only possible thanks to the dedication and teamwork of colleagues here at Mildmay. Huge thanks go to our Therapy Assistant, Marilyn, for coordinating with our partners and organising the collection and to Meghoo, Charles and Lazarus from our Estates and Facilities team for moving and loading the equipment and for always being ready to help where needed

It’s a shining example of what makes Mildmay special - a small team with a big heart, committed to generosity even at times when resources are tight.

Standing with Ukraine

The items donated by Mildmay will soon be en route to Ukraine, where rehabilitation and hospital equipment is urgently needed. Our contribution will help people in communities close to the war-affected areas, supporting recovery, mobility, comfort, and dignity.

As our Lead Physiotherapist, Asterios, who was also very much involved, says, "It’s truly a good day to be part of the Mildmay family - a team that leads with compassion, generosity, and heart."

This is the Mildmay way: compassionate, practical, collaborative, and grounded in our belief that everyone deserves care and support.

A history of standing with Ukraine

This is not the first time Mildmay has supported healthcare in Ukraine. Our clinical team travelled to the region to train and support medical staff in the care and treatment of people living with HIV/AIDS over twenty years ago. Today’s donation continues that legacy of solidarity, compassion and practical assistance.

Looking ahead: supporting our new Uganda health programmes

Our partnership with PhysioNet doesn’t end here. In the coming months, as Mildmay begins developing our new health programmes in Uganda, PhysioNet will play a vital role in supporting the clinics we plan to build. Their expertise in sourcing, refurbishing and supplying high-quality equipment will help ensure these new facilities are well prepared to meet the needs of the communities they will serve.

We’ll be sharing more updates soon as the project takes shape and as we embark on fundraising for the new buildings. Stay tuned for further news on this important next chapter.
