Commercial washing machines

Every sheet, towel, uniform and item of patient clothing at Mildmay goes through our laundry. In a hospital, laundry is about safety as well as cleanliness: anything that isn’t properly cleaned can put patients, staff and visitors at risk of infection.

To keep our laundry safe and hygienic, we run several commercial-grade washing machines almost constantly. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we were recently able to replace two of them, which helps us maintain our standards in Infection Prevention and Control and Care Quality Commission inspections.

But machines used this intensively wear out. Several of the others are now beyond economical repair, and keeping them going costs more than replacing them. Each new commercial machine costs upwards of £1,500, even for a refurbished model. Every gift towards a replacement helps keep our laundry, and our patients, safe.
