The Annual World AIDS Day Red Run 2024

The annual World AIDS Day RED RUN returns to Victoria Park, East London, for its 14th year. It's a 10K

Time & Location

23 Nov 2024, 11:00 – 14:30 GMT

London, Victoria Park Rd, Cadogan Terrace, London E9 5EG, UK

About the Event

10K/5K CHARITY FUN RUN AND WALK

The RED RUN is a non-competitive event that welcomes all ages and abilities, focusing on community and not competition. It is more than a run as it creates an annual large-scale platform to help propel the HIV movement forward.

The registration fee is £28 (+service fee) to take part in the event and complete the 5k/10k route. Upon registration, you can select which charity (Mildmay, obviously) you would like to support through fundraising.

This is a fully accessible event. You don't have to run to participate. In fact, 33% of the 1,200 who have registered annually since 2018 signed up to walk.

The 5k/10k (chipped timed) route takes you through leafy Victoria Park, where you’ll be joined by thousands of others who are all walking, running, sashaying and jogging to raise awareness and vital funding to help strengthen the UK’s response to HIV.

More than a Run!

Last year, 3,000 people attended, raising over £232,000 for 30 HIV charities.

Since 2009, East London’s HIV charity Positive East has organised the World AIDS Day RED RUN. What began 15 years ago with just 50 people is now one of the UK’s largest annual HIV community events and has raised over £1,100,268 for HIV support and prevention projects.

The World AIDS Day RED RUN has become a pivotal event in the journey towards a world where everyone living with HIV can thrive. Since 2009, this incredible movement has grown from a small gathering of 50 people to one of the UK’s biggest annual HIV community events, raising over £1.1 million for crucial support and prevention projects.

What makes the RED RUN unique? It’s a space for unity. HIV charities, people living with HIV, and the community come together to raise awareness and vital funds. All HIV charities are welcome to participate and benefit from this powerful event, the only of its kind.

We’ve made significant strides. New diagnoses are down dramatically, and London and the UK have surpassed the UNAIDS 90:90:90 target. However, the journey continues. 106,000 people in the UK are living with HIV, and stigma remains a barrier to care. Funding cuts threaten essential services.

That’s why the RED RUN is more important than ever. It’s a celebration of progress, a call for continued support, and a platform for raising awareness. Join us and be part of the solution!

Take Action. Lace Up. Let’s keep moving forward, together.

How to register

The registration fee is £28 (+service fee) to take part in the event and complete the 5k/10k route. Upon registration, you can select which charity you would like to support through fundraising.

It is free to attend and enjoy the festivities, and we encourage you to bring friends, family, neighbours and colleagues to do so!

Who benefits from World AIDS Day RED RUN?

The World AIDS Day RED RUN benefits charities that support and empower people living with HIV and their communities.  100% of the proceeds raised from the event will go to your charity of choice (selected upon registration). This year, we are so pleased that 25 HIV charities have joined in the event, allowing each to raise vital funds which will strengthen our collective response to HIV.

How much is raised?

Since 2009 over £875,000 has been raised for essential HIV support and prevention programmes across the UK!

Last year, over 3,000 people participated, raising a staggering £232,000 for 30 HIV charities! Join us this year and help strengthen the UK’s response to HIV.

Chipped time

The event is chip-timed for those who are keen. There will not be a gun time; rather, your time will start once you cross the start mats.  At 12:30, the route will be open, and people can begin to participate at their leisure. Results will be available by 28 November.

Bag check

We will provide a staffed bag check marquee. You will be provided with a large clear plastic bag that will be pre-labelled. Everything you want to keep in the bag check must fit within the bag and simply hand this over to one of the RED RUN volunteers at the event. Please note we will not have dressing rooms. We advise that you wear an outer layer that can be easily taken off and checked into the bag check.

Will you have changing rooms?

We will not have changing rooms at the event.  We ask that you come wearing a layer that can easily be removed and checked into the bag check.
