Bondo Youth Wellness Centre

The Centre, located on the grounds of the Bondo District Hospital, provides a safe space for local adolescents within the community to access Sexual Reproductive Health Services, as well as a wide range of fun activities for the community to get involved in, like salsa dancing, darts, and computer classes.

In 2021, Mildmay Kenya started collaborating with and supporting activities at the Centre.

In addition, they partner with centre members to provide comprehensive sexual education (CSE) across schools in the local community.

The Bondo Youth Wellness Centre provides a safe and supportive space for young people in the town of Bondo, Kenya. It seeks to empower and inspire young people to achieve their full potential and to live a life of dignity. Offering a variety of activities, ranging from health education, skills development, and youth-led initiatives to cultural and sporting activities.

The Mildmay volunteers at Bondo Youth Wellness Centre regularly deliver lessons about sexual and reproductive health rights. The Centre hosts numerous social activities to encourage young people to attend.

The Centre also provides young people with the opportunity to participate in capacity-building projects that are designed to promote self-reliance and community development with the goal of providing young people with the resources and support they need to become successful and responsible citizens.

About Bondo

Approximately 28,800 people live in the town of Bondo, and it is predominantly a youthful population. With 10,059 young people aged between 10 and 24, the Centre has the potential to reach, engage with (and educate) a large number of young people.

Bondo is a Municipality in Siaya County of Kenya. It has traditionally been a fishing town, and its entire economy rotates around the fish from Lake Victoria. It is the largest and most populous town in the county. Located 64 kilometres west of Kisumu, Bondo was established in the early 1920s as a market centre.
