Kenya: Bondo Youth Wellness Centre
Between 2021 and 2024, Mildmay supported the Bondo Youth Wellness Centre in Siaya County, Kenya, run in partnership with Mildmay Kenya and the Kenyan Ministry of Health, and based at Bondo District Hospital.
The Centre provides adolescents with accessible sexual and reproductive health services alongside education and social activities, helping them build the knowledge, confidence and support networks they need to make informed choices about their health.
The Bondo Youth Wellness Centre is a dedicated space for young people in Bondo, Siaya County, Kenya, run in partnership with Mildmay Kenya and based on the grounds of Bondo District Hospital. The Centre gives adolescents in the area access to sexual and reproductive health services alongside education and social activities, helping them build the knowledge and confidence to make informed choices about their health.
This project is delivered through Mildmay Kenya, formerly part of the Mildmay International family of organisations. At the end of 2024, Mildmay Kenya was handed over to its own independent board of trustees. The Bondo Youth Wellness Centre continues to run today as one of Mildmay Kenya's primary initiatives.
What the Centre offers:
Sexual and reproductive health education, delivered in local schools and by Mildmay volunteers
Skills and confidence-building projects supporting leadership and community involvement
Social activities, including salsa dancing, darts and computer classes, giving young people a safe space to gather

Through Mildmay’s support, the Centre is helping shape a generation of informed, empowered, and responsible young citizens.
About Bondo town
Bondo is a youthful town of around 28,800 people in Siaya County, with roughly 10,000 residents aged 10 to 24, making it a natural home for this kind of youth-focused work.
The Centre was formally agreed with Bondo District Hospital and the Ministry of Health in May 2022, and runs programmes reaching adolescents and young people in the community, including sessions on contraception and creative-arts projects addressing gender-based violence.
