The Very Revd John Richardson

Chair of the Board of Trustees.
John Richardson has been involved with Mildmay in the United Kingdom and East Africa since 1999 when he first connected with Mildmay Uganda with their new hospital in Kampala. Annual visits to projects since then have seen further involvement and in 2005, he became a Trustee and in 2007 until the present continues as the Board’s Chairman.
During his time as Chairman, John has led the charity through periods of profound challenge and change. He guided the Board through the complex process of merging Mildmay International with Mildmay’s hospital charity in the East End, helping to create a single, stronger charitable organisation with a clearer sense of purpose. Today, he continues to support Mildmay as we look beyond 40 years of service, helping us to navigate new pressures on our hospital and to shape an ambitious future for our emerging international programmes.
John has been a Priest in the Church of England since 1974 and has served in five dioceses in various Parishes including suburban, coastal, town centre, cathedral and rural ministry, before retiring to Exeter in 2025. He is married to Sue a former special needs teacher and magistrate and they have three adult children and ten grandchildren.
