Captain Ian Clark

Captain Ian Clark

Ian spent 40 years working at sea, the last 28 as Master (Captain).  Since leaving the sea he had been employed in several roles in senior management of shipping companies, as well as a period as Harbour Master at a major port.  He spent the last three years of his career as Head of Marine Operations at Transport for London.  Since leaving the sea he specialised on Occupational Health and Safety.

 

During his career he was an Associate Fellow of the Royal Institute of Navigation and an Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute.  He was also a Freeman of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners and of the City of London.

 

Ian also spent 24 years as a Cadet Forces Adult Volunteer with the Sea Cadet Corps.

 

Ian retired in 2024 and lives by the sea in Kent with his wife.  They have one son (who is also a Master in the Merchant Navy), two step grandchildren and a step great grandson.
