Home based care

In between rural clinic days, trained community volunteers make home visits to monitor the children's progress. They can provide basic nursing care, medication, counselling, nutrition, hygiene education and support with household chores as appropriate. They will make a referral to a health worker at the local clinic (whose staff have also benefited from Mildmay training) in the case of any child who is especially unwell. Children from the rural programmes can be brought with their care-giver to Kiddukiro Hospital if they are in need of intensive rehabilitation.

Mildmay Uganda extends extra support to vulnerable families - such as child-headed households and those with widowed or elderly care-givers. In such instances we will provide bedding, dry food rations, income-generating grants and funds to build pit latrines, for example.
